Review: 'King Eider'
'Drink Me Dry'

-  Genre: 'Folk' -  Release Date: '10th June 2013'

Our Rating:
So, the press release tells me that Edinburgh’s King Eider incorporate folk and blues tones into their songwriting and y’know, I’ve heard it all before, especially recently. I’m not suggesting for a second that the music scene’s starting to stagnate because there’s an infinite array of inventive, off the wall and genre-defying acts emerging right now. There are even some fairly straightforward, categorisable bands of quality, but the whole folk explosion that’s going on... meh. I can’t even muster any ire to launch any critical invective.

‘Drink Me Dry’ isn’t bad. It just isn’t anything much. Gently picked acoustic guitar, gutsy backing vocals and pleasantly harmonious melodies are hardly rare, and even a ‘nifty harmonica’ and lines like ‘snap my neck, drink my blood, drink me dry’ are slightly less commonplace still aren’t enough to really make me think King Eider are anything special.
