Our Rating:
This is the debut single from new London-based band Desperate Journalist who share a bass player with Jonny Cola & The A-Grades but are not Glam in that way. The opening Cristina jumps out at you like a cross between The Pixies and the Marine Girls with a good dollop of Lush thrown into the mix as the song whirls you around. Jo Bevan makes you listen to her lyrics about how Cristina should not just have the same old boring life.

Then we get to Mistakes which is a bit Lush meets Arson Garden and makes me wish I'd been able to see the launch gig the other week. We all make mistakes, but this song isn't one of them.

Kitten has a central line about "Never Apologizing" that sounds a lot like Savages Don't Lie but set to a musical motif that may have been stolen from System Of a Down. It's a brilliant tune that really needs to be heard loud in a dark club.

The EP closes with Wait, spraying some great explorative guitars over a tune that is more Siouxsie meets X-Mal Deutschland with a twist of Pauline Murray and The Storm as it builds and builds to its climax.

This is a very assured debut EP that is well worth a listen.
