This album contains eight tracks of contemporary jazz instrumentals with strong elements of prog-rock and fusion.
This statement alone will probably put many potential listeners off without hearing a single note of what this quintet from North-East England have to offer.
After listening to the messy opening tune Nutmeg State I was set to conclude that these doubters would not be missing very much.
However, the accomplished ensemble playing does produce some redeeming moments particularly on the slower pieces.
Second Season, Never Ever and Dust Red are tunes where Graeme Wilson on sax and Paul Edis on piano combine effectively to create a gentle, mellow mood.
The more energetic shifting rhythms of Wilson's She Said It Ugly, also work well. This the only track not written by the band's double-bassist Andy Champion.

The low points come in the form of the freeform skronk of Giant Mice and What's For Breakfast? both of which sound like crude products of improvised jams.
On all tunes, Mark Williams on guitar takes a backseat role. Drummer Adrian Tilbrook is the fifth man, drawing on many years of experience including a stint with Alexis Korner.
On the whole, despite the admirably collective spirit behind this record, it's all too indulgent and unfocused to be win over too many to their jazz corner.
