With woozy, warped synths, blasts of analogue phase, complex time signatures and counter-rhythms galore, ‘Several Wolves’ sees Hoofus push at the boundaries of listenability, and sometimes break right through.
It’s dizzying, bewildering. Sure, sustaining the brain-melting electronic blizzard for the duration of an album is an achievement, but it can be heavy going and certainly isn’t an album for unwinding with after a tough day at the office.
