Our Rating:
This show took place in the middle of the afternoon in Vans' Camden store so we had plenty of time to wander round and look at the casual shirts and skate shoes while waiting for JETTBLACK to play this gig. It's part of the launch celebrations for the band's new mini album Black Gold that is out today (19.8.13.), but for more information go to: < ahref="http://store.universal-music.co.uk/restofworld/artists/spinefarm-records/icat/spinefarmrecords">Spinefarm Records online.

The shop was pretty packed by the time they came on with some overspill on the pavement outside looking in through the windows as they kicked into Slip It On. It is, of course, a reference to the t-shirts and jackets we were all about to slip on from the racks of the Vans Store. They sounded great and considering it was in a shop they were also good and loud, both Will and John's guitars sounding fierce. Now lads, the store staff didn't look so happy when you were singing about how you should Give It All Away, though. No no no they want us to buy buy buy!!

Still soon enough they were back on track with In-between Lovers: as great as it always live and this up close and personal it was good to see Jon in a Vans t-shirt rather than his normal topless stage lack of attire. Shortly it was time to Get Your Hands Dirty so just don't wipe them on the clothes OK!! Everyone clapped and sang along and they had the place eating out of their hands.

We were all here to help launch the band's new mini album Black Gold and this was the first of two shows they played on Saturday, so of course they played a monstrously good version of Black Gold itself with Tom doing everything he could with his bass to get the folks out in the street dancing to it. I think he might have succeeded too.

Love Has Taken Control was as tight as ever and as they went into the solos it morphed into Paint It Black for a chorus and verse before going back to their own tune as they had most of us clapping along and generally having a good time. Strangely no one suggested a circle pit. Still it was time to get a tiny bit mellow on Prison Of Love about the softest song they have. Live, it went down a treat.

Then it was time for one of the covers on the new mini album, so they did Heart's Barracuda. Not sure if Will or Jon is the most like Ann or Nancy, but it was still a very cool version that really rocked the hell out of it. I think Vans managed to sell a few of the t-shirts with the Barracuda design to that tune. They closed the set with Raining Rock and right on cue it was in fact raining out on Camden High Street. It's as close to AC/DC as you can get with chant-along lyrics going down a storm as did the entire set.

This was a really great mid-afternoon set by one of the tightest British rock bands around. Go and see them when they play in a town near you whether it's in a shop or a proper rock club or on a roof. Just go see 'em - anywhere will do!!
