Ok, so the idea of ‘acoustic soul-infused folk pop’ doesn’t exactly get me going, and the fact Ethan began studying music and playing guitar at the age of six and played his first solo gig at 12 just makes me think he was a precocious little git with pushy parents.
‘Haven’t Got There Yet’ is unquestionably musically accomplished and showcases Ethan’s vocal range and nuanced style, and it’s certainly pleasant and easy on the ear. It’s the kind of thing smug muso types stroke their chins ponderously to and nod in appreciation at, which means it’s a bit smug and muso for my tastes.
