Newcomer Joe Kemp (presumably no relation to the brothers in 80s smooth pop sensations Spandau Ballet) describes his debut single, ‘Twilight’ lifted from the forthcoming album ‘Kaleidoscope’ ‘a Soul-Jazz affair’. I try to put my prejudices aside and guess what? It’s a smooth trad jazz vibe, evocative of smoky basement bars. Chilled brass and Joe’s voice, which saunters the upper reaches in an assured fashion combine to create a laid-back mood piece that’s not bad at all.
