Review: 'SKADEDYR'
'Kongekrabbe'

-  Label: 'Hubro Records'
-  Genre: 'Ambient' -  Release Date: '10th January 2014'-  Catalogue No: 'HUBROCD2536'

Our Rating:
Skadedyr, from Norway, consists of 12 musicians and an even larger assortment of instruments. With a brass section, guitars, keyboards, vocals, two drummers, strings and an accordion, theirs is an loosely organised and energetic cacophony.

The five tracks on the band's debut release (which translates as King Crab) were written by Heiða Karine J&ocute;hannesd&ocute;ttir Mobeck and Anja Lauvdal although members of the band rehearse and arrange all the music jointly.

There is such an improvised feel about it that I seriously doubt that that the musical collective stick closely to any pre-established script.

The album was recorded live in the studio in the course of only one day with producer Andreas Mjøs (Jaga Jazzist).

The wildest track of all is Partylus, a cut and paste affair which features a number of samples including Fats Waller's Your Feet's Too Big and Prodigy's Firestarter.

Imagine a sedate garden party invaded by a bunch of anarchists and you'll get some idea of the sound here.

Crazy but fun.
