Review: 'GREASY SLICKS, THE'
'Into The Night EP'

-  Label: 'Aurora Music'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: '24th March 2014'-  Catalogue No: 'AMUKCD001'

Our Rating:
Three young men in rock'n'roll casuals and with their backs to the camera walk towards a dark wood. This is the enigmatic cover shot to the band's debut release sending the message that the trio would rather be serious and anonymous than cheesy pop stars.

This is backed up by their online bio in which they invite the listener to "appreciate the symbiotic nature between quietude and the vociferous parts of their songs".

Despite this pompous tone, Jack Kendrew (guitar, vocals), Rian O'Grady (drums) and Nathan Rasdall (bass) play fairly straight blues-rock in the Led Zep tradition.

The title tune, Into The Night, has some In My Time Of Dying aspirations although Kendrew's raspy voice is more like Gomez's Ian Ball than Robert Plant.

Messing With My Head is a little bouncier while Wild Ones is a moody ballad ("my head in the clouds and my chest filled with doubt") which builds to a conventional rockin' finale.

These three songs are relatively brief (each clocking in at around the 3 minute mark) and I get the impression the band would be more comfortable playing longer tracks. This would give them the chance to cut loose and find their own voice.
