Review: 'Snack Family'
'Belly (EP)'

-  Label: 'limited NOISE'
-  Genre: 'Punk/New Wave' -  Release Date: '19th May 2014'-  Catalogue No: 'ltdnse5'

Our Rating:
With a growling vocal that comes on like a metal Tom Waits sneering and snarling over a jarring, heavily rhythmic, No-Wave musical backdrop, Snack Family bring the noise and pack some beef. ‘Long Pig’ hammers in hard with the grimy swagger of Girls vs Boys and the insistent bludgeoning of Swans, and the baritone guitar gives it a distinctive edge but it’s the funked-up sax shit that really makes it stand out.

The title track has a slow-slung sleaze and warped humour of Foetus or Thirlwell or Pig, and they swampy groove hits a greasy crawl on ‘Fetter the Same’. It’s seedy, swingin’ and big in the knackers department. ‘Pip Runs Hard’ is a raucous, riot of sax, a salacious balls-out brute, and as an EP, this feels brilliantly complete: over the course of 18 minutes, Snack Family set out their stall and give a neat taster of their sound. It’s just enough to leave you hungry for more.
