Review: 'ATHLETICS'
'Who You Are Is Not Enough'

-  Label: 'Deep Elm Records'
-  Genre: 'Post-Rock' -  Release Date: '22nd April 2014'

Our Rating:
In characteristic post-rock fashion this band from Oneonta, New York play tunes which contain frequent moments of ambient delicacy interspersed with scattered blasts of hardcore rock.

This re-released album originally came out in June 2012 and is the band's third release. It consists of one song divided into five numbered parts (I - V) and in the enhanced format the versions come with or without vocals from Howie "my faith is weakening" Cohen.

You can take your pick as to whether you feel the words enhance the songs or not; personally I'd say not.

The only drawback with choosing the instrumental option is that I doubt that you'd guess this was a concept album about the quest to find yourself but hardly seems a great loss.

The sound is derivative but performed with precision and power and the closing piano refrain of V is a particularly nice way to conclude things.
