'Commuter Love'

Our Rating:
This-mathematically inclined pop group from North London are gaining support in all the right circles so I guess it falls on my head to gatecrash the party and urinate on the bonfire.

Well I probably won’t go that far but what I will say is backing from Unamazing Radio and 6 Music is, in my opinion, as good a sign as any of mediocrity. ‘Commuter Love’ thus coasts along on a glam rock riff while the lyrics address modern life and like just how much work sucks and everything. It chooses to do this in a world weary, knowing kind of way rather than say, the nihilism that large swathes of the British public actually practice of a weekend.

Fair enough, the vocal delivery and lyrics are the best part of the song. As for the rest of it, the video suggests to me that two or three people at least are merely standing around gently adding to the chordial wash of the track. What is math pop/rock anyway? Everytime I hear some I am reminded how boring the subject is.

In fairness ‘Commuter Love’ is not as bad as I am making out but seeing as they don’t really need my help I have taken the opportunity to offer the flipside of the coin. Plenty of people will like this which is great and I know where they all live.

A word on the video. It’s great to see so many tech-savvy gig goers. You know that one day your government will use your phone as a location device for the miniature drones they will send to turn you into pink mist without anyone even noticing? Fans of Belle and Sebastian and Stereolab, raise your phones!
