Review: 'Los Cripis'
'Long Play'

-  Album: 'Long Play' -  Label: 'Unwork Records'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '18th July 2014'

Our Rating:
Los Cripis’ third and imaginatively-titled ‘Long Play’ LP, following on from ‘FAT’ ‘Our First Album’ (contrarily their second) is a gloriously lo-fi collection of wonky pop played primitively, with spirit and without any effects. Notes bend and warp – they’re all the right notes, just not necessarily in the right order, and chords twist and fray. The album’s packed with brilliantly banal lyrics couplets with neither rhyme nor scansion. Conventions are so dull.

‘Don’t Hurt My Little Sister’ comes on like ‘Pleasant Valley Sunday’ as jammed by The Fall circa 1978. 60s psychedelia and vintage indie collide with angular new wave played with a true DIY punk attitude, its simplicity is its genius. Whether it’s worth the crazy price tag on the label’s website is perhaps debatable, but it is an absolute gem of an album.
