Review: 'TRIPDOWN PROJECT, THE'
'Post Modern Delay'

-  Label: 'Holier Than Thou'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: '9th June 2014'

Our Rating:
Like other reviewers, I find it nigh on impossible to write about The Tripdown Project without comparing them to other bands.

They are a trio with a shaggy-haired blonde singer (Jojo Blyth) so they are likened to Nirvana; they reference 60s pop with occasional vocal harmonies so are somewhat ridiculously mentioned in the same breath as The Byrds and The Beach Boys.

The most frequent name that crops up, and the most accurate one in my view, is that of The Foo Fighters since their old school rock sound comes with a pop sensibility.

They would dearly like to be an American band but actually come from Northern England and formed after the demise of "Sheffield rockers" Colorpool. Blyth and drummer Ritchie Chappell recruited Tim Pritchard on bass to keep the dream alive.

Body Hammer shows a playful punk side and The Great Kill is the pick of the commercial tunes.

The 11 tracks are interspersed with indistinct samples from US radio programmes which I guess is meant to sound edgily contemporary.

They can write decent hooks and play competently but it's hard to get really excited about a record that is more retro rehash that post modern.
