You could forgive Post War Glamour Girls for lifting another single from their stunning debut album, released a mere six months ago. But that’s not their style. Album number two’s already in the pipeline, but this is a standalone release, and what the two tracks demonstrate is just how rapidly the band are evolving.
Against a thick bassline with real swing, James Smith spits a sinister narrative on ‘Gustave’. The delicate post-rock tinged breakdowns echo ‘Sestra’, the monumental opener of the aforementioned debut album, but then the bands steers in a very different direction.
The lumbering ‘Lolong’ is unusual in every respect and definitely marks a departure for the band. The vocals are way off in the distance and Blacklisters’ Billy Mason-Wood brings additional turbulence to the disturbing noise. The strolling bass dominates and the guitars drift like a veil of smoke and suffice it to say it’s big on atmosphere.

Yet again, Post war Glamour Girls have confounded all expectations anyone could have had. The only question remaining is, what will they do next?
