Review: 'CAPTAIN WILBERFORCE'
'Distance EP'

-  Label: 'Self Released'
-  Genre: 'Pop' -  Release Date: '20th October 2014'

Our Rating:
Since 2004, Captain Wilberforce from Leeds has specialised in idiosyncratic yet melodic pop songs.

On paper this is a four-piece band but essentially it serves as a vehicle for Simon Bristoll's well-crafted tunes. The four new songs are neither hard rock nor soft pop and give the impression that Bristoll would be happier if he were writing for an 80s audiences.

The harmonies and catchy beats are reminiscent of bands like ELO and Crowded House; the kind of artists who could be relied upon to write solid radio-friendly tunes without ever being hip.

The tracks here are: Someone To Love, Good Times You Said, The Johnny Depp Memorial Cafe and You Can't Have Me

Distance is the first of 3 virtual EPs that will make up the next official Captain Wilberforce physical product. The second in the series is due for release in January 2015.
