The press release describes FlashFires as a ‘stunning new indie band’ and to be honest, it’s hard not to be sceptical. Hasn’t indie had its day? Didn’t it die a death after it became synonymous with floppy dopes in tight jeans and dull T-Shirts? Didn’t Arctic Monkeys prove themselves to be the last bastions of indie, and Hard-Fi and Razorlight its death knell?
Moreover, given that this track was first released – and reviewed by me -in April, can it really qualify as their debut single?
None of it really matters that much: it’s a decent tune with some choppy guitars that evoke early releases by The Bravery. This means I like it, but that Flashfires are unlikely to really set the world alight.
