Our Rating:
Lost Gravity are Brazilian-born Breno Val and Giuliano Kolling. The London-based power duo call reference to The Foo Fighters, Soundgarden and Metallica, and following  a trio of self-financed EPs they’ve built up a sufficient head of steam to throw down their debut album. Well, sort of. Six of the 10 tracks here appeared on the aforementioned EPs, meaning that effectively there’s only an EPs worth of new material here, but for those that missed those previous releases (some of which are sold out) then it’s fair enough. What this eponymous long-player brings is solid, driving hard rock riffs. They clearly grasp that to fill any spaces they need to crank it up to 11. Val has a classic ‘clean’ rock voice, and the pair play to their strengths.

‘Anywhere But Home’ is reminiscent of MSP, but for the most part they tread the terrain between vintage hard rock, 90s alternative and contemporaries such as the Foo and Biffy Clyro (and with its metal-edged cyclical riff ‘All the Same’ has hints of ‘Bleach’ era Nirvana mashed into its Soundgardenisms). Most importantly, what they lack in innovation, they make up in energy.

Maybe on the back of Royal Blood’s meteoric rise, there will be openings for more power-driven rock duo and who knows, maybe Lost Gravity will break on through.
