Review: 'Snack Family'
'Pokie Eye (EP)'

-  Label: 'Limited Noise'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '8th December 2014'

Our Rating:
Following the release of the ‘Belly’ EP with all of its glorious sleaze grind credentials, which earned Snack Family an 8/10 thumbs up from W&H, the London oddballs close 2014 with the ‘Pokie Eye’ four tracker.

The comparisons to acts including Gallon Drunk, Tom Waits, Swans, Morphine, Foetus and the Birthday Party made by us and other publications are all entirely justified. But for all this, Snack Family sound like no other act. They sound dangerously deranged. ‘Lupine Kiss’ finds them swaggering, staggering and blasting out a boozy, brawling ruckus that threatens to collapse into a fight with itself at any moment. It’s dirty and psychotic, and the same is true of their version of ‘Plastic Factory’.

The smouldering ‘No Reason’ brings things down, way down, ahead of the wild ‘Pokie Eye Poke Ya’, a crazed assault with drums, bass and aggressive horns. Not only is there a suitably warped promo video, but they’ve got a beer brewed by the esteemed Revolutions brewery to accompany the release. Nine stars for being awesome – a sample of the beer would have made it a ten.
