To take a short-cut via the generous press-release, we know in advance that ‘She Makes Me Want to Die’ is a tale of explosive arguments at 3am, of being pushed almost to the brink by the pervasive toxicity of the situation, and that by juxtaposing this unhappy subject matter with an altogether more upbeat musical style and delivery, Faerground Accidents have produced a single that evokes early Brit Pop style classic with echoes of Suede and Pulp, underpinned by the influences of Bowie and Soft Cell.
The undeniable truth it that it sounds very like ‘Trash’, only with buoyant synths breezing around the bright-sounding guitars. It’s not just the guitar sound and melody, but cross-dressing Bomar Faery’s nasally vocals. That isn’t a criticism: simply another way in which the Suede comparisons stand.
Still, it’s a catchy rush of a tune the likes of which Oasis seemingly trampled out of existence with their lumpen sods of songs. As such, its arrival is welcome.
