Review: 'CRUNCH, THE'
'Neon Madonna'

-  Label: 'Cargo'
-  Genre: 'Punk/New Wave' -  Release Date: '23rd March 2015'

Our Rating:
Neon Madonna is the lead single off of The Crunch's second album Brand New Brand that's due out at the end of April. So until then we have this tasty one-song taster to get us in the mood.

In case you missed them touring the first album 'Busy Making Noise', The Crunch are a Power-punk super group featuring Sulo Karlsson from Diamond Dogs, Mick Geggus from The Cockney Rejects, Terry Chimes from the Clash and Dave Tregunna of Sham 69 fame as well as Idde Schultz. They have been great live every time I've seen them.

Neon Madonna opens (surprisingly) with what sounds like auto tuned vocals saying "Neon Madonna" over and over before the song kicks into a modern reggae-rock song that feels like The Clash's early forays into reggae-fied pop. With lyrics about trouble and strife in the streets and climate change getting out of control, it at least makes you think a little bit before the anthemic chorus comes in to seal the deal, followed by a nice little dub section.

This is a good fun single that is catchy enough to get plenty of airplay on the radio and shows these guys really know how to write a catchy song. On this evidence, the new album will be every bit as great as their debut.

At the moment, the only upcoming gig they have is at Koko as part of the film premiere for the new film about Joe Strummer, 'I Need A Dodge! Joe Strummer On The Run' on March 25.
