And so the band sets the scene: ‘Deep in the jungles of Liverpool, lurks Breakfast Monkey, a 4 piece alternative/rap rock band that consists of roaring guitar riffs, rapid lyrics and turbulent beats.’
Kicking off with what sounds very like a distant Gang of Four sample, ‘Do Not Listen’ lurches ito some awkward territory that exists between Led Zeppelin and ‘Fight For Your Right’ era Beastie Boys. It’s like Rage Against the Machine never happened. ‘My religion is loud noise!’ they yell as the guitars scream in.
No doubt they mean it in a ‘hear no evil’ sort of way, or as a ‘fuck you I won’t do what you tell me’ kind of statement, but it’s almost as ghastly as it is dated. I’d recommend doing as the title suggests.
