Review: 'KELLI ALI'
'INFERNO HIGH LOVE'

-  Label: 'ONE LITTLE INDIAN RECORDS 319TP7CD'
-  Genre: '' -  Release Date: 'NEW RELEASE 10/6/02'

Our Rating:
KELLI ALI, the feisty ex-SNEAKER PIMPS vocalist and already confident solo star, opens her account with "Inferno High Love", the lead-off track from her "Tigermouth" debut album.

Brash, sexy, suggestive and effective, "Inferno High Love" features the kind of coquettish kick we're coming to expect from the Indian-Irish Brummie girl and with MADONNA producer RICK NOWELLS at the controls, she can't fail. Indeed, as debuts go, "Inferno High Love" is certainly impressive, though this writer still prefers "Teardrop."

"Inferno High Love" also features mixes by SHARP BOYS and RIVA, but more interesting are the two additional new tracks. "Lucifer Rising" pulls off a reflective, semi-acoustic trick similar to her label mate BAZ and is again convincing and full of Eastern promise, even if I'm not entirely sure whether or not the lyrics refer to the notorious KENNETH ANGER movie of the same name?
Finally, there's "Lipgloss," which, even without NOWELLS' production expertise, offers a sultry, if slightly starker side of KELLI'S muse. Debut album "Tigermouth" of course, paints a more complete and sensual picture of Ms. ALI'S sensurround, but even as an isolated taster, "Inferno High Love" and its' cohorts are enough to draw you in. Watch this girl go. (7/10)
