Rant coming first. This was the single that introduced us to BRMC the best part of 12 months back, so why the fuck do we put up with its' re-issue yet again, with spurious live versions and feeble mutterings about single-day releases, collectors editions and deletions? Note to record companies: stop fleecing us, you bastards!!
Not that most of them will listen, like, but - hey! - I feel far better now. Anyway, if you can ignore the politics here (and it's tricky), "Whatever Happened..." remains a low-riding, smouldering beauty that provided a suitably inflammatory curtain raiser for BRMC back then, and even now it comes out of the middle distance like an S&M- obsessed pack of dragons looking to slake their lust.

Oh, and if that image scares the shite out of you, suffice it to say it sounds like THE JESUS & MARY CHAIN at their rollercoaster-riding best. Sorry lads, but it does. So there.
As to the question the song's title poses: well, how about 'it was eaten by the corporate monster showering us with dubious re-issues' as an answer, because that's roughly the size of it. With that in mind, this gets (0/10) morally, but (8/10) purely on merit for the song. You figure it out.
