Over the last decade or so, Marsen Jules has consistently expanded the ambient field, exploring new territories and generally creating music that’s both abstract and interesting. ‘Empire of Silence’ finds him explore cold, glacial soundscapes and vast sonic expanses.
The eight sweeping suites melt into one another to forge an immense aural experience.
‘Kayi’ is forged from notes that drift, crystalline, in ebbs and flows, swelling and sinking again. Sonic helixes suspended in the air spiral in slow motion and gently turn into long, graceful tapering contrails. If ‘Naklin’ brings cold shards, then ‘Chahatlin’ offers something approaching hints of warmth from within the impenetrable spindrift. Accomplished and atmospheric, it’s classic Jules.
