Review: 'de Bastion, Roxanne'
'Rerun'

-  Genre: 'Folk' -  Release Date: '28th April 2015'

Our Rating:
Roxanne de Bastion has come a long way since she started playing at as many open mic nights, bars and music venues as she could, travelling throughout the country via bus and train in order to play her songs to as many people as possible.

Following on from the release of her extremely accomplished ‘Seeing You’ EP , Roxanne de Bastion offers up ‘Rerun’ as a single cut. It’s simple, sparse and melodic, yet has a lot going on in terms of its beautifully evocative atmosphere.

Roxanne describes the song as ‘a musing on ideas, whether we ever come up with something truly new or whether we merely pluck something out of a greater consciousness in cycles.’ Not one of your usual relationship anecdotes, then, but something altogether more cerebral and all the better for it. It’s also something anyone with a creative bent can likely relate to.

The lyrics are eloquent and considered, but Roxanne’s vocals are the real key here: the power lies not in her ability to belt out the lyrics, and nor is she a shy whisperer. Instead, she draws you into the song’s delicate backing with her nuanced, delivery.

It’s really rather special.
