Review: 'Slow Down Molasses'
'Burnt Black Cars'

-  Album: 'Burnt Black Cars' -  Label: 'Caroline International'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '11th May 2015'

Our Rating:
Just when the opening gambit of ‘Sovereigns’ and the first three minutes of the title track suggest a leaning toward slightly wet, floppy-fringed shoegaze dreamery, they slam things up three gears and hit a rollicking riff propelled by an insistent rhythm that shows they’ve got a lot more to offer. And so, when ‘Summer Sun’ comes on like The Wedding Present’s cover of Pavement’s ‘Box Elder’, a breezy indie scuzz out, you know that at some point, they’re going to break out into something meatier again before too long.

It’s actually a while in coming, but the wistful pop of ‘Stay Sill’ evokes ‘Slouvaki’ era Slowdive is quite magical, and builds into an unexpected swirl of noise near the end, and it’s fair to say that across the spread of the album, there are some lovely moments.
