Review: 'Horsedreamer'
'Bolder EP'

-  Genre: 'Folk' -  Release Date: '11th May 2015'

Our Rating:
Slowcore folk, sparse instrumentation, ambient textures, eerie tension and story songs may not exactly be the obvious list of things you might associate with King Midas Sound, but then, they’re one of those acts for which anything goes.

And so KMS main man Roger Robinson in collaboration with singer, painter and songwriter Piers Faccini, has resulted in a different kind of crossover, and one that pairs everything back to the barest minimum to produce a work that’s as uncluttered as its possible to get.

‘Nowhere’ drifts in and drifts out and has evaporated into the mist before you’ve really had time to tune in, while ‘Mexico’ draws on Faccini’s world music background and has a brooding rumble beneath its busy but subdued percussion, not to mention a certain rustic feel.

The ponderous title track is subtle and delicate, and once again, centres around an acoustic guitar and little else, and the EP’s ultimate success lies in the absolute restraint the artists have shown here.
