Review: 'Butcher, John & Andy Moor'
'Experiments with a Leaf'

-  Album: 'Experiments with a Leaf' -  Label: 'Unsounds'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Catalogue No: '48U'

Our Rating:
Moor’s downtuned guitars and buzzing bass sound like a helicopter landing, while Butcher’s frenzied sax noise is simply out there…. Fizzing crackles and pinkling pops are juxtaposed with rambunctious free jazz breaks. Performed in a cathedral, this live improv recording is pretty wild in places, even by the standards of live improv works.

Chaos and cacophony reigns, broken springs and bubbling waves ping and bounce in all directions, squawks and growls and purrs, chimes and scrapes, clangs and jangles, rumbles and toots, building at times to explosive crescendos and insane climaxes.

It’s all there bar the kitchen sink (although there isn’t much evidence of the leaf).
