Our Rating:
Bunnygrunt's Vol 4 pays homage in its' artwork to Black Sabbath's Vol 4 but there the similarity ends, thankfully or not, dependant on your viewpoint. Instead, Bunnygrunt's 5th or 6th album is a full on lo-fi brain mauler whose first three songs fly by quicker than you can ask and beg and plead for someone to gimme five bucks in a maelstrom of cheap guitars and fizzing noises and loosely efficient drums.

Then we get to Chunt Bump: a 7 minute plus opus of indie with a repeating guitar motif and lots of cymbal work drawing you into Bunnygrunt's world which may be slightly shambling but it still seems to know where it's headed to. It that peaks with what sounds like a Naomi Yang-alike warbling in the background as the guitars go round and round your brain and you're drawn towards this siren sound coming from the vocals.

Then comes the urgent, powerful college rock psychedelia of The Book That Iw Rote (sic). Yes their spelling not mine. It's great and more than all right, like a great lost Drop Nineteens tune or Velvet Crush and it's a real highspot.

I Quit, Mr.W Hite is the sound to the comedown from the withdrawals from the white stuff and sounds just as fragmented and disturbing as those feelings might be. Disorientation rarely feels this good. Frankie Is A Killer is live and like a mad cross of gANG of Four's I Found that Essence Rare and a speeded up Isolation but with a helping of the Electric Eels' madness. A great sound that I want to hear live.

Still Chooglin' (After..) is also live and is a good boogie rock tune to get down to. Straight ahead rocking fun. Young Abe. Lincoln slows things down but with a good messy edge to it and some interesting harmonies to boot.

He's About A Leaver is a cool college rocker with a bit of a skewed edge to it. Thought You Belong To Me however is a complete turnaround, sounding more like The Weavers than anything else. It's a cool interlude before 1000% Not Creepy (weepop version) bursts out of the speakers full of energetic sparky guitars and harmony vocals like The Polyphonic Spree on crystal meth.

They then do a wonderfully skewed version of Warren Zeavon's Carmelita, a song I've heard covered by loads of bands in the last few years. This is not the saddest version of it but is still full of emotion and feeling needed for this sorry take of smack addiction. Where Eagles Dare Pt 2 is a slow acoustic tale of heartbreak and despair and the need for just one more drink to make it feel OK.

Led It Out is back in the rocking boogie groove to get a decent sized bar going. It sounds pretty similar tune-wise to Amphetamine by Steve Wynn and The Miracle 3 and it's a very cool tune. Don't Forget Who Your Friends Are sounds like the end of live set song to thank the crowd, the staff etc and make sure everyone cheers for an encore type song. And well, its great fun and makes me want to shout "Encore!" at the end of it!

If you buy the vinyl you only get 8 of the 16 songs on the CD and cassette versions of the album, so bear that in mind. Find out more at Bunnygrunt Facebook page
