Reviewing Stefan Wesolowski’s ‘Kompleta’ feels wrong, inappropriate. This reissue of his debut, composed 2006 and released two years later, is not only an ambitious work, but a work that stands on a grand scale. It’s almost beyond comprehension that it was created by human hands and voices, let alone conceived and created by a composer aged just 21 at the time.
The choral vocals and liturgical chants intone deep spirituality as they soar to the heavens. It’s powerful and moving. One feels more inclined to line, prone, in the presence of such an incredible work, than to stumble around with words, which feel inconsequential and insignificant.
Overwhelming, and nothing short of an absolute masterpiece.
