Review: 'Graugaard, Lars'
'Venus (EP)'

-  Label: 'Dacapo Records'
-  Genre: 'Ambient' -  Release Date: 'June 2015'

Our Rating:
On ‘Venus’ Lars Graugaard presents four long-form instrumental tracks of substantial ambition. The lead track is performed by the NYU Symphony Orchestra, while ‘Book of Throws’ and ‘Three Places’ feature the NYU Contemporary Music Ensemble. Sinewy strings scrape and scratch, flutter and eddying into tense peaks.

In between, the compositions are spare and atmospheric, often so quiet you have to strain to hear the subtle tones, as delicate as particles floating freely in space. Rippling piano runs into jagged busts to create moments of tension in the beautifully serene soundscapes Graugaard sculpts so meticulously.
