Our Rating:
The original copy of this 12" Single I was meant to be given was sold to someone at the gig where I was due to collect it, but it was even cooler to receive it with some other vinyl in the post.

It's also a pleasure to be writing my first review of a 12" single in years I don't remember the last one I reviewed.

So having taken the white vinyl out of the saturated yellow and red cover and slipped it onto my deck the A side begins like a dreamy slow ethereal song called Dream naturally should. It's a bit This Mortal Coil meets Japan slowly building with all sorts of interesting noises coming in and out panning across the speakers as the dreamy vocals ask us to feel her and if you light a few candles you just might really feel her dream.

The short Interlude is an acapella message to someone to step back before the 12" changes gears and explodes into life on Rodeo: a full on Rap rock assault as if Salt & Pepa have gone Skanky grime with a drum and bass edge as they try to outdo Roxanne Shante on the first version of this tune on the single.

Gun is the final track on the A-side and no it's not the John Cale song but a dark claustrophobic skittery drum and bass tune with floaty vocals like Liz Fraser in a ghetto style that makes it all rather unsettling as she whispers "Do You want to fuck with me?" over and over again. Not sure I'd wanna, to be honest.

The B-side opens with the Gun (Aimee's Mix) that ramps up the claustrophobia and angst as the lyrics are far more upfront before some seriously militant drumming takes over and her anger grows. Her voice gets more and more hoarse as if she's channelling Skin from Skunk Ananasie only angrier. This really needs to be heard at maximum volume.

Rodeo (Tunabunny Mix) takes the song and gives it an almost orchestral rap grime feel to it with plenty of old skool arcade computer game noises. A little bit glitchcore and this time it needs to be heard in a dark club environment.

The Single finishes with Gun (Bastards of Fate mix). Yes, a third mix of the same tune and different enough to be more than worthwhile as this takes Gun into Spaghetti western territory with fuzzy glitchcore noises battling with the still anguished vocals.

This is a very cool 12" single that is well worth getting from the good people at Happy Happy Birthday To Me Records online
