Our Rating:
When people complain there’s no interesting new music being made any more, the simple fact is that they’re wrong. There always has, and always will be, exciting music being made. It’s simply a matter of knowing where to find it. Psychemagik’s mission is to scour the underground and the furthermost recesses in search of the weird and wonderful, and ‘Magik Sunset (Part Two)’ is (as you might expect) the second instalment in their gathering of esoteric groves for the benefit of the world at large. It’s taken them five whole years, and yes, it was worth the wait.

John Keating’s nine-minute ‘In Search of Atlantis’ provides a fitting start, offering a nod to the Psychemagik methodology while also encapsulating the far-out expansive sounds they’re all about dredging up. Trippy, doodly grooves and strolling basslines, spacious sonic currents drift hither and thither with chilled vibes abounding. Psychedelic jazz segues into smooth laid-back funktronica, bubbling together in a big pot of strange. And very cool it is too.
