Our Rating:
It’s easy to forget just how broad a spectrum percussion covers. ‘Blossom Bells’ finds Erland Dahlen exploring that spectrum, from the subtly, shifting chimes of ‘Snake’ to the heavy-duty, driving drums that propel the space-age prog of ‘Pipe’.

Remarkably, it isn’t the percussion that stands out across the album’s six tracks, but the atmosphere. The shimmering cinematic pop of ‘Hammer’ contrasts with the ebbing drones of ‘Knife’. The variety of styles is matched by the adroit execution; the consistency of the compositions is impressive, and Dahlen succeeds in balancing experimentalism with structure and listenability.
