Our Rating:
I should have probably stopped after reading the words ‘Barcelona pop-punks’. No, I’ve got nothing against the Spanish, and in principle, poppy punk. After all, who would deny that some of the best early punk acts were also magnificent writers of pop tunes? I’m thinking of The Buzzcocks, Undertones, he Saints, even Wire in their off-kilter way. But what passes for pop punk now? At the risk of sounding like an old git, it simply doesn’t cut it, and is more toothless than many of the members of bands who emerged back in 77.

Granted, some of the more frenetic, kinetic tracks, notably the piston-pumping, overdriven energy of ‘Revolution’, which is reminiscent of ‘Screamager’ by Therapy? have a moderate bite, but then ‘End of the World’ sounds like a Good Charlotte B-side, and just look at these goofy bozos and take note that they’ve toured with McFly. Call that punk? They’re definitely taking their cues from Blink 182 and The Offspring, and none of the greats. Shame. Just think how much better they might have been if they’d done a bit more digging.
