Review: 'AUSTRALASIA'
'Notturno'

-  Label: 'Apocalyptic Witchcraft'
-  Genre: 'Post-Rock' -  Release Date: '2nd October 2015'

Our Rating:
Australasia is Italian multi-instrumentalist, Gian Spalluto.

What is referred to as the 'blackened post-rock' of Notturno, is his second full-length recording.

It is also billed as a musical soundtrack to "the night side of nature".

Nine one-word titles like Nebula,Invisible and Amnesia suggest a preoccupation with all things obscure, hidden or lost.

The sound is impressively big considering this is a solo project with the guitar being the prominent instrument. Only the four minute piano-based title track provides a quieter, more reflective variation on the formula.

By now, there are so many albums following this kind of cinematic, rock-instrumental approach and nothing about this one stands out as better or worse than the rest.
