Review: 'Heavy Jets , The'
'Common Mantra (EP)'

-  Genre: 'Rock'

Our Rating:
In this line of work, you learn to take press releases with a pinch of salt. Or, perhaps more usefully, a pint of beer with a whisky chaser.

So the press release promises ‘a guitar driven, catchy rock record that leans towards the roots of classic rock music, taking influences from some of the legendary rock bands from the 70' and 90's, but keeping it modern and putting their own flare on the genre.’ It tells me that ‘Holding nothing back, ‘Common Mantra’ is four tracks of pure rock noise’.

I expect nothing of the sort. I expect it’s going to be shit.

Well, ‘pure rock noise’ certainly is not what my speakers emit when the stream begins. But I’m glad I’m sitting down, because the big shock is that it isn’t shit. Far from it, in fact. The In fact, it so happens that The Heavy Jets are seriously good when it comes to cranking out gritty, blues-driven rock.

The Newcastle quartet have got some nuts, and some cracking tunes.
