Review: 'ELARA'
'In The Depths Of Time, In An Ocean Made Of Stars'

-  Label: 'Fluttery Records'
-  Genre: 'Post-Rock' -  Release Date: '28th November 2015'

Our Rating:
This Italian trio's second studio album was created slowly, in home sessions, and demands to be heard in the same spirit of calm and patience.

The band drew inspiration from a 'musical battle' between divine creatures in Tolkien's The Silmarillion but there seems little in the way of conflict in the finished recording.

The three instrumental pieces take form gradually with no gimmicks or grand gestures. The EP is dominated by the elegant yet elegiac 20 minute opener: Tell Me Your Theme And I'll Show You The World which builds to a stirring three minute closing section followed by a one minute of near silence

A repeated piano refrain signals the more modest three minutes and 47 seconds of A Faint Sun Rises Over The Horizon while Walk On The Stars! Through Your Mind (5:44) concludes the entertainment in a gracefully melodic yet no less dramatic manner.

As far as post-rock pieces go, there is nothing startlingly original on offer here but there is enough to show that this band are doing more than simply going through the motions.
