Review: 'YORK, MATT'
'Boston, Texas'

-  Label: 'Self Released'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: '8th January 2016'

Our Rating:
The album title helpfully tells us where Matt York is based.

His brisk brand of Americana is equally straightforward. He keeps things simple, tries nothing fancy and, lasting under 30 minutes, the nine-track album doesn't outstay its welcome.

Big Fan Of Why has shades of Mink DeVille's Spanish Stroll but Steve Earle is probably the closest reference point.

The songs sound personal and he seems a personable kind of guy. He's philosophical enough not to whine when he's down on his luck.

Losing Streak he calmly reflects "sometimes love is coming, sometimes going, and sometimes it's just gone"

The fiddle playing on Saw You On Friday turns what might have been a break up tune into a devil may care hoe-down.

Dreams of "living large" on I'm Back are what help him overcome the setbacks.

Direct and uncomplicated, this is good time rock and roll without the frills.
