This is dark alright. It’s ad to determine whether the opening sounds ate distant drums or the sound of wind buffeting against a cave opening or a microphone. Slowly, forms emerge: a drum follows the pulse of a heartbeat and a groaning, droning, buzz rises. Gradually, heavy industrial beats build against a dingy, gut-churning, synthesised bassline.
Brutal percussion explodes on ‘Pantiex Agònic’: less of a musical work than an exercise in violent sonic torture at 100BPM, it’s a shuddering assault that pounds at the listener’s senses and psyche, to disturbing ends.
It’s followed by ‘Caça de l’Home’, a bleak expanse of doom/drone which marries the low-end guitar grind of Sunn O))) with the distilled dirge-like percussion of ‘Greed’ era SWANS. There’s nothing friendly about this release. It may contain only five tracks and have a duration below the thirty-minute mark, but it utilises its stay effectively, by burrowing in deep into the darkest recesses of the listener’s psyche and prodding at the internal organs and the farthest corners of the mind. It isn’t nice, but then, it isn’t meant to be.
