Louisa Roach has a talent for easy-going, melodic pop tunes. Recording as She Drew the Gun, ‘Memories of the Future’ is her debut album and it’s certainly not your run of the mill fare. Understated acoustic guitar provides the primary instrumentation, but it’s used in a range of ways, from the sparse folky singer-songwriterly ‘Pebbles’ to the drum machine assisted soulful ‘What Will You Do’. ‘Since You Were Now Mine’ uses delicate strings to augment Roach’s vocals, which pang with sadness, rather than excessively emoting. Elsewhere, she gets a bit Lily Allen on the sharp-tongued bitter-edged ‘Poem’, contrasting considerably with the haunting ‘Be Mine’ and the crunching rock ‘n’ roll of ‘Pit Pony’.

Varied and accomplished, as comfortable referencing Kurt Vonnegut as immersing in drunken reflection and already a Glastonbury Emerging Talent finalist with a Maida Vale session recorded for Steve Lamacq, She Drew The Gun looks like being a name to watch.
