It’s a ramshackle garage indie racket. Primitive? You could say that. The title track of this EP, set to feature on the new album scheduled for a September release sounds like Bob Dylan circa 1972 fronting a garage act who aspire to make a Pebbles compilation. It’ rough ‘n’ ready.
The jangling indie of ‘Airport’ is a love song, but features mundane travelogue lyrics and some wonky, no-fi guitar playing: you couldn’t accuse these guys of pretence or overproduction. The guitar break – worthy of J Mascis – shows they can play, but that they can’t be arsed. Or maybe they simply haven’t the cash: they sing about the low-paid every day, and it’s impossible to hear this without thinking of early Pavement. And fair play: it gives the songs an immediacy which negates any accusations of amateurism. The psychedelic tinge of ‘Bennie & the Jets’ brings more than a hint of Bowie to proceedings, but its glam stomp still stays true to the one-take lo-fi indie sound of the band.

Unpretentious, unproduced and brilliant because of it, Scott & Charlene’s Wedding have ‘delivered’ another exuberant racket that’s a lot of fun.
