It has taken a few listens for this new single from Ruth Theodore to grow on me. On first listen I found it quite jarring like the vocals were singing at odds with the music but on repeated listen I got my head around the way this gently wraps itself in a warm embrace around you.
She intones over and over how You Can't Help Who You Love or how many you love the at times odd instrumentation and how it comes and goes so that it ends up feeling like three songs on the same theme melded together. This might be due to working with Todd Sickafoose who also produces Ani Difranco and this has a similar rhythmic feel to some of the Ani Difranco songs I know. Maybe.
