Review: 'NOISE'
'Echoes'

-  Label: 'Hljodverk Records'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: '13th June 2016'

Our Rating:
NOISE are a four-piece band from Reykjavik who formed in 2001 when brothers Einar & Stefan Vilberg were only 16 years old. This is their fourth album.

THEY FAVOR CAP LOCK TEXT AS THOUGH YELLING TO GET THE BAND NAME HEARD. THEY EVEN MANAGE TO HAVE ALL THEIR TRACK TITLES LISTED ON SPOTIFY IN THIS FORMAT.

Einar writes, sings, plays guitar and also produced the album. He plainly models his looks and vocal style on Kurt Cobain. In consequence, the close affinities to melodic grunge are evident, complete with anguished and angst-ridden lyrics about coping with depression and/or isolation.

The first two singles Dark Days and Quiet are very like the other six tracks; variety is not their strong point. Mark Lanegan's string quartet play on a few tracks and titles like Paranoid Parasite and Sea Of Hurt reflect the self obsessed lyrical content.

This degree of alienation is not what one tends to expect from Iceland but just goes to show that you the blues have no geographical boundaries.
