Review: 'Big Top Heartbreak'
'My Breath Killed the Roses'

-  Genre: 'Indie'

Our Rating:
Scott Lavene has been having a tough time, and when it only starts with having breath that kills roses, you can forgive a bit of wallowing. But despite the litany of hardships listed in the song’s lyrics, he’s not bitter, so instead of cleaning his teeth and sorting out his threads, he decides to get down to some dancing and accepting the shitness of things. ‘It’s all about forgiveness / it’s all about wonder’, he sings.

The sentiment is admirable, as is the soulful delivery: accompanied by simple piano and mournful violins, Lavine has a great voice. If the rest of the material on the upcoming album, ‘Deadbeat Ballads’ is of a similar standard, Big Top Heartbreak have got plenty of reasons to be cheerful.
