Review: 'Silver Apples'
'Clinging to a Dream'

-  Album: 'Clinging to a Dream' -  Label: 'Chicken Coop Records'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: '2nd September 2016'

Our Rating:
Nineteen years is a long time between albums by any standards. A lot has happened in the world and in the music industry in that time. And yet Silver Apples’ return, which still very much reflects the experimental ideals of the late 1960s and early 1970s, sounds remarkably fresh and contemporary.

Shimmery, hazy electro-Americana with a heavily psychedelic vibe melts into Krautrock and wibbly, wobbly noodles. Simeon Coxe’s voice drifts amidst a haze of amorphous sound, with lyrical abstractions adding to the album’s surreal appeal.

They may on the face of things be a relic of the past, but with ‘Clinging to a Dream’, Silver Apples show they can still cut it, and that they can show the new generation a thing or two.
