Review: 'COWTOWN'
'Paranormal Romance'

-  Label: 'The Audacious Art Experiment / HHBTM Records'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '19th August 2016'

Our Rating:
Discs don't come much more compact than this. This is high energy power pop or "dynamic overstimulated indie rock" if you prefer the band's own tongue in cheek description.

Not much time for romance , paranormal or otherwise. It's strictly quickies only as the young trio from Leeds celebrate their 4th album by racing through 12 tracks in 23 minutes as if they've got a bus to catch/ lover to meet.

"You gotta keep it to the point" is the refrain of Motivational Speaker and they follow this advice to the letter.

At precisely three minutes, Emojicore is the longest track yet within this economic format Hilary, Dave and John manage to pack a lot in - condensed guitar breaks, lyrics as sound bites - listeners with attention deficit disorder are well served.

Consequently, for any influences you might detect (Deerhoof, The Breeders, Dr. Feelgood, Devo etc) you have to imagine them all as speeded up versions. Tweak is both the perfect title and most concise encapsulation of what Cowtown do best.

And given speed is of the essence, note if you hurry you might even get the whole fun package in limited edition pink vinyl LP.

What are you waiting for?
