Review: 'Seven 2 Five'
'Jazz Liberties'

-  Album: 'Jazz Liberties' -  Label: 'Citric Sounds'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: '16th September 2016'

Our Rating:
I often worry that I’ll be sprung playing the trumpet on the toilet. At least, that appears to be the narrative of the cover art, the interior gatefold of which depicts the trumpet-playing hare leaving his horn behind as he bounds away, chased over the hills by the other animals, the giraffe, the pig, the bear and the strange-looking floating fish thing. The images are courtesy of Estonian surrealist fantasy / nature artist Navitrolla.

Seven 2 Five comprises Permanent Smilers Richard Lemongrower, Jonny Cole and Pere Fraser, and the music of ‘Jazz Liberties’ is altogether less strange and more straightforward than the accompanying artwork: the songs are jazzy, but also have a certain mellow swing to them. As such, this album shouldn’t be confused with the 2008 album of the same title (and featuring a number of the same songs, which in turn ae reworkings of older songs) by The Permanent Smilers). Recycling is good for the environment, after all, and perhaps I could recycle some of my reviews when I’m not playing brass instruments on the bog.

Lemongrower has a smooth, easygoing vocal style, and the overall vibe of the album is uptempo, upbeat and sunny. Nice.
