Our Rating:
Yes this is a review of a new single by Close Lobsters. It's a belated follow up to the band's comeback LP from 2014. For some of us it is a surprise to find them back at it, though I have fond memories of them back in the late 80's generally as a support act but an extremely good one.

So this EP or (7" single as it only has 2 songs) comes on wonderful heavy weight Gold Vinyl. There are also two bonus songs on the download code that wasn't included in my single. Boo!!

So the A-side, Under London Skies felt like they'd thrown a spanner in the works. I wasn't expecting them to sound like Willie Nile on this wonderfully downbeat Americana style song about the London they once knew and is now no more.

Nonetheless, it's a good wistful look at what has gone. Are they singing about the notorious Wood Green Squat where more squatters left in boxes than walked out? Could be. Also thrown in are some of the bands and influences that affected them including Peter Perrett and Alternative TV. This song will grow on you and is damn cool.

On the AA side is Wander Epic Part II: a very Velvets-style jangle as they wander the streets over descending chords which make you yearn for a day at the seaside. That somehow makes them sound like a more tuneful and less dour Arab Strap before the guitars start to soar and they take you off someplace else.

It's very cool to have Close Lobsters back. find out more at Close Lobsters Bandcamp page
